Product Introduction

Ever watched a swarm take off toward the horizon and wished you had a box in the right tree?

We've been there. So we built a trap that scouts actually choose.

A premium swarm trap engineered around 47L of internal cavity — a volume that aligns closely with the 40L figure that scout bees consistently prefer in Dr. Tom Seeley's swarm research. The 6-frame design gives the colony room to establish itself, while the fully wax-dipped body seals the wood against moisture, rot, and warping for years of service with zero painting required. A full telescoping lid trimmed in black aluminum keeps weather out, and the sized entrance hole with a closing disc lets you seal the trap for safe transport once the bees move in. The included mounting kit with two aluminum handles lets you hang the box on a tree without driving a single screw into the trunk. Built for beekeepers who want to catch free bees with a trap that lasts and performs season after season.

"Can't wait to see how well this works. I really like the quality. The only thing I'm unsure of is whether the door will let mice nest — but the closing disc seems solid enough to keep them out."

"Good quality box, easy set up. Will be putting it out next week — not swarm season by me yet, spring is taking its time. The wax dip feels really durable."

"Without a doubt the best one I've ever purchased. The build quality is on another level compared to the plastic traps I've used before."

"I think it looks awesome!!! I can't wait to try it and catch a swarm!! The mounting bracket is a clever design — no holes in my trees."

"Quality swarm trap! As promised, it took some time to receive it as they had sold out and had other orders to fill, but worth the wait. I will order more soon as the quality was worth the wait. Thank you!"

"I've used swarm traps for years and this is the first one that came fully wax dipped. No painting, no maintenance, just hang it and wait. The 47L size is spot on for what scouts want."

"The telescoping lid is such a smart feature. It seals tight against rain but slides open easily when you need to check on the bees. The black aluminum trim looks great too."

"The included Swarm Commander lure is a nice bonus. I sprayed it inside, hung the trap on a tree line, and had scouts checking it out within a week. This kit is complete."

Product Features

🐝 47L Cavity — Optimized for Scout Preference Research by Dr. Tom Seeley shows scout bees strongly prefer cavities around 40L and sharply discriminate below 20L. This trap's 47L internal volume sits right in that sweet spot, giving scouts the size they're looking for.

🪵 6-Frame Design — Room for the Colony to Establish Six frames give the swarm enough space to build comb, establish brood, and settle in properly. The frame layout also makes transferring the bees to a permanent hive straightforward.

🛡️ Fully Wax-Dipped — Years of Protection, No Painting Needed Wax dipping seals the wood against moisture, rot, and warping, allowing the trap to stay outdoors long-term without any maintenance. The natural wax aroma also helps encourage bee acceptance.

🔧 Mounting Kit Included — No Damage to Trees Two aluminum handles work with the included mounting bracket. Simply ratchet strap the bracket to the tree and hang the box by either handle. No screws, no nails, no harm to the tree.

🧲 Swarm Commander Lure Included — Ready to Hang Each kit comes with a Swarm Commander vial, a premium swarm lure that mimics natural pheromones to attract scout bees. Crush the vial, let the fluid absorb, and place it in the trap. The telescoping lid with black aluminum trim seals tight against weather, and the sized entrance hole with closing disc lets you seal the trap for transport once bees move in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is 47L the right size for a swarm trap?
Dr. Tom Seeley's research found that scout bees strongly prefer cavities around 40 liters and discriminate sharply below 20 liters. The 47L internal volume of this trap sits right in that preferred range, giving scouts the space they're looking for without being too large for the colony to heat effectively.
Do I need to paint the trap?
No. The trap is fully wax dipped, which seals the wood against moisture, rot, and warping. Wax-dipped hive components are known to last 20 years or more with zero maintenance, and you never need to reapply wax or paint.
How do I hang the trap without damaging the tree?
The included mounting kit uses a bracket that you ratchet strap to the tree trunk — no screws or nails required. The box then hangs from one of its two aluminum handles. We recommend a secondary strap to prevent movement in the wind.
How do I use the included swarm lure?
Remove the vial from its package and crush it in the center until the internal glass breaks and the fluid releases. Let the fluid absorb into the cotton plug, then place the vial inside the trap. You can also swab a small amount near the entrance.
When should I put the trap out?
Place your trap out 0–4 weeks before swarming season begins in your area. Set it 8–15 feet off the ground in a shaded spot near a tree line, facing south or southeast. Check it weekly through swarm season.
How do I transfer the bees once a swarm moves in?
Once the swarm has settled, use the closing disc to seal the entrance hole. This lets you safely transport the trap. Because the trap uses a 6-frame design, transferring the frames to a permanent hive is straightforward.
